Bolognese > La cura

Queste caratteristiche variano da soggetto a soggetto e in relazione all'età.

Bolognese > Care

Keeping your Bolognese’s coat in good condition does not require too much time or effort if compare to other long-haired breeds. Below is some advice on how to give your friend a healthy, clean and thriving coat.
Clean eyes and whiskers daily with cotton swabs soaked in boric water.
This will avoid oxidation of the fur and thus prevent yellowing.
Comb and brush! The comb will remove some hair.
Hold the base of the hair with your free hand and comb away! Be careful not to pull to hard in case you encounter knots and tangled fur.
Proceed from the tail towards the head: don’t forget the paws.
Once combed you are ready for the final brushing.

-You will need to care the most for the coat during spring and autumn. These are the times when the dogs starts shedding hair and dead hair can create knots which are really difficult to untangle.

-Combing is most important before bathing. Start with combing the deeper fur, then the top layers. For this operation a soft metal brush can be very useful.

-After shampooing always use conditioner, adequately diluted with warm water. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes while gently combing the coat, then rinse thoroughly. Conditioner makes combing a lot easier.

-Gently dab the coat: be careful not to rub it. Then put your friend on a table.

-Now you can start with drying with a hairdryer, going against the direction of hair growth. This will improve the size and number of beautiful locks.

-Once dry you can apply an antistatic product: this will help the locks too. Always keep in mind that every lock of fur has a different texture, consistency and hair density. These characteristics vary depending on age and specimen.

-Puppy fur is different from that of the adult. Puppy fur is not so thick nor is it curly thus requiring minimal care. However, it is essential to get the puppy accustomed to being brushed and combed or else you will experience serious difficulty when, generally after 11 months, your dog will have a full coat but will not want to stand still on a table getting their hair pulled by brushes and combs!

Claws and ears need constant attention too.

As opposed to humans, dogs have a large quantity of hair inside their ears.

Remove any fur growing inside the hearing canal with suitable tweezers.

Administration of ear drops.
It is good practice to regularly clean your dog’s teeth with specifically designed toothbrushes and toothpaste for dogs, available from vets and pet shops
It is important to use suitable claw clippers for cutting our dog’s claws regularly.
Afterwards, use a nail file to round them up and finish the job like a professional!
That’s all. I can assure this seems a lot longer than it actually takes in reality. Basically it isn’t that different from a human shower and manicure.
